Half-Life: Alyx Generated Over $40.7 Million In First Week

While VR is still in the niche category, Valve did make a splash in the gaming market with Half-Life: Alyx after selling more than 860,000+ copies of the game in the first week alone.

This has mounted to around $40.7 million in revenue which surpasses most VR games ever released thus far according to Nielsen. Beat Saber is currently the only real rival which is estimated to have grossed over $68 million and that’s including the music package DLCs. For HL:A to hit these marks doesn’t come off as a surprise considering it’s a new Half-Life game and that Valve were the ones to create it.

Leading up to the initial launch, we learned that Valve assigned around a team of 60 to create HL:A which takes place in between events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities. Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.

As founders of a fledgling resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research, and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine. Your essential duty is to eliminate the vicious Combine aliens.

We’ve been able to do a thorough review of HL:A and it’s already looking to be like 2020 VR game of the year.

The game is well-polished and we see the reason why people love the game. If you haven’t tried the game yet make sure to check out our review and give it a go.
