Pixel Ripped 1995 Arrives On Oculus Quest & PC VR Next Week

Travel back to a time before microtransactions and online trolls.

Brazilian VR developer and publisher ARVORE today revealed the official release date for its next installment in the Pixel Ripped saga.

Arriving on Oculus Quest and PC VR headsets April 23rd, Pixel Ripped 1995 takes players on a nostalgia-fueled trip back to, you guessed it, 1995, where they’ll once again save the universe from a handful of retro gaming-inspired threats. Whereas Pixel Ripped 1989 shined a spotlight on classic 8-bit gaming, 1995 will focus on the dramatic transition from 16-bit to the 32-bit gaming, aka the first generation of at-home consoles.

Why the year 1995 you ask? Well, according to ARVORE, the decision was made based on feedback from those who had completed the first Pixel Ripped game.

“Ever since the first days working on the project, there has been a very special connection between the development team and the Pixel Ripped community, so much so that the future of the series was decided by the fans themselves,” states the developer in an official release. “Players who completed the first game encountered a time machine that allowed them to choose their favorite year, and the developers used that to decide the setting for the next game: 1995.”

Much like Pixel Ripped 1989, players will face a combination of “in-game” and “real world” threats as they work alongside the game’s hero, Dot, to protect both universes from destruction. Based on the trailer it appears as though players can expect to do battle on a variety of retro platforms, from old-school arcade cabinets to classic home consoles.

“Thanks to the success of the first game, we were able to dedicate more resources and use more experience to create a game that is an even crazier nostalgic adventure. The setting of 1995 gives us a lot of great classics to reference and a whole new world to explore,” says Ricardo Justus, CEO and Co-Founder of ARVORE.

Pixel Ripped 1995 arrives on Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift/Rift S, and SteamVR headsets April 23rd followed by the PlayStation VR in May. Based on the images provided it looks as though you may want to think about investing in a Bluetooth controller. If 1995 is anything like 1989, you’ll definitely want to avoid using your motion controllers.
