For those feeling a little couped up at the moment, popping on a virtual reality (VR) headset can be a great way to escape the confines of home. If you love a bit of music in your life then Soundscape VR might be worth a look, especially as it has just introduced a new world, Silica Sol.
Soundscape VR is a sort of musical metaverse, where users can both visual arts and music experiences. Silica Sol is Soundscape VR’s fourth and largest world to date, an eternal desert filled with unique plant life, alien minerals and audio-reactive art.
Music lovers can come together to shoot, slice, draw, paint, and compete in various game modes across Soundscape VR, whilst progressing their characters and unlocking new abilities. These include “Rail Rider” which gets them closer to the stage, “Stage Sprinter” to fly faster and “Dark Sunglasses” to go invisible.
“This whole Soundscape journey started for me at Burning Man where we traded tech-art for smiles on The Playa to the delight of festival-goers and has continued to grow from there. Burning Man is a truly a one-of-a-kind event that blends the best parts of music, community, technology and art in a mind-bending festival experience,” said SVR CEO and Lead Developer, Eric Alexander in a statement. “Silica Sol in a way pays homage to the desert landscape so many people fall in love with at Burning Man, but in the unique SVR way that our users have come to expect. We’ve also included so many new ways to customize your adventure in this update. I can’t wait to hear people’s experiences.”
Soundscape VR offers special sets from artists like Big Gigantic and STS9, user-created mixes and synchronized playlists, basically any music you might want to listen to.
The 24/7 VR music festival is available for free on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index via Steam and Oculus Store. VRFocus will continue to report on the latest updates for Soundscape VR as the platform expands during 2020.
